News & Announcements:

JANUARY 2007 - Unmounted meetings have started - watch your email for information and be sure to attend as many as you can.

There are a couple unmounted activities in our area that all our members should try to attend - these are great learning opportunities.  The "Dressage4Kids" at Post University has different levels of activities for members at various stages of learning and the Ridge Rider's Barn Fair has tables prepared by "C" Pony Clubbers that depict many equine-related activities, facts, etc.  Please see the calendar for more information.  We always try to have a few drivers so we can take several kids to these activities.  Please try to make the time to attend these learning activities.

DECEMBER 2006 - Come to Holiday Party and have fun with all your riding buddies. Contact Natalie for information.

Be sure to check the "2007 Calendar" page for up-to-date information regarding OCPC upcoming activities as well as many other Pony Club related activities and other "of interest" activities.

Contact Linda for information about "Jam & Jellies Fundraiser" OCPC is doing.  Just in time for simple holiday gifts!

NOVEMBER 2006 - Several Pony Club young ladies attended the Old Chatham Hunt Ball this year.  They all claimed to have a great time yet again.  Did they really dance 'til midnight?

OCTOBER 2006 - CONGRATS to all that rated-up earlier this month.

Our Annual Meeting on the 26th was very well attended.  Various members reported on all the activities they participated in over the year.  We were certainly a busy group!

SEPTEMBER 2006 - CONGRATS to Alana, Stephanie, Kaley and Julie for a job well done at the Running Fox D Rally.  First timers Julie and Kaley performed right up to Old Chatham's high standards. Alana and Stephanie were seasoned pros, and the whole team received many compliments from the judges. Claudia, as the C advisor, kept everything up to par.  The team won 2nd in the all important Horse Management and took 6th in riding with some very tough competition.

A few members participated in the Old Chatham Hunt Club Hunter Pace - some for the first time!  They all survived the traipse around the countryside and all came back smiling.

AUGUST 2006 - We had a fantastic series of lessons with Margie Hutchison and Marcia Kulak this month which many members took part in.  Our club is fortunate to have access to these terrific instructors.

July 26, 2006 - STEPHANIE was off to USPC Nationals at the Virginia Horse Park!  She was part of a "scramble" team for Quiz and her team placed 2ND!  WAY TO GO STEPHANIE!  She brought back a medal and a ribbon.

JULY 2006 - We had several days of lessons with Ann Hillier in which several members improved their flat work as well as jumping techniques.

July 8, 2006 - ENDYCTA Horse Trials is next weekend.  If your not riding - please consider volunteering.  This event draws many competitors and is right in our backyard.  Without volunteer's it wouldn't be possible so please consider lending some time to help continue the sport of eventing in our area.  Contact Margie Hutchinson (email) or Kim Stack (email).  Volunteer's for fence judging are still needed.

June 23, 2006 - OCPC NEEDS YOUR HELP.  Please email Natalie or Linda for information about volunteering just a few hours of your time so your child can benefit from this wonderful organization.  Without volunteers, we would not be able to offer all the "team-building", instructional programs with knowledgeable, respected USPC supporting instructors.  We are part of a nation-wide non-profit organizations - not a private club.  We are dedicated to providing our children with the knowledge they need to become SAFE horsemen/women.  None of this is possible without your volunteering some time for the various activities. Volunteering is a fantastic way to learn more about what your child/ren are learning.

Currently, we are in need of volunteers to assist with the Eventing Rally at Kent, CT on Monday and Tuesday June 26th and 27th.  If you can provide help even for 1/2 a day on either of those days.  Each member club of the NY/UC Region is responsible for assisting with various pieces of the regional activities and OCPC is on the list this year to assist with the Eventing Rally - even tho there are no OCPC members attending this rally, we are still responsible as a club to provide volunteers to make this rally happen for all the members of our region.  PLEASE CONSIDER HELPING - email Natalie or Linda for information.

June 22, 2006 - The Chronicle of the Horse Magazine has extended a special offer to USPC.
If you order or renew your subscription to The Chronicle through the USPC Bookstore, a portion of the sale price will be donated back to USPC.

The Chronicle offer is available on the front page of the USPC Bookstore site. If you have never subscribed to The Chronicle - now is your chance. And if it's time to renew your subscription, please do so through the Bookstore web site and USPC will benefit. For more information about The
Chronicle, you can visit their web site at

JUNE 2006 - USPC DC’s Digest: I thought I'd share some encouraging words from George Morris, the U.S. Chef d'equipe.  George was quoted in the June 9th issue of The Chronicle of the Horse in a sidebar to a show jumping report. He expressed concern regarding the general state of show jumping in the U.S.  "...the new generation has less good horsemanship," he said. "There are people who want to have an easy road to success with their children. The quick success is the most important for them. They are not interested in the journey, just in the result."  He recommended a return to the principles of the U.S. Pony Clubs: "The children should start again to groom the horse, to saddle it themselves, to take care about the blacksmith, produce a green horse, to be occupied with all the things around the horse, really get a feeling for the horse again. The journey counts, not just the results."

THANKS GEORGE! High praise indeed.

June 18, 2006 - CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OCPC COMPETITORS.  The 2006 OCPC/OCHC Schooling Show was a HUGE success thanks to all the members that volunteered their time to make it all happen.  Our very own Allie E. was JR. Low Point Champion! In addition, OCPC members Claudia R., Kali S., Rachel B., Emily B., Sarah E., Stephanie R., Grace J., and Alana A. all participated and had a fun day in spite of the weather!  GREAT JOB EVERYONE!

June 11, 2006 - OCPC had two teams go to the NY/UC Show Jumping Rally in Kent, CT.  Team 1 consisted of riders Kali, Sarah, and Katie with Rachel HM.  Team 2 was a mixed team and consisted of riders Claudia and Allie with Kaley HM.  They survived a 5AM departure and the wonderful winds of Kent for the day and came home with a 3rd and 5th overall.    CONGRATULATIONS TEAMS!

May 31, 2006 - Several members rated up today.  Congratulations to ALL - they endured a day of strength and determination regardless of the outcome.  The heat, humidity, and duration was a tremendous stress for all involved yet sportsmanship shone throughout.  Congratulations to those that succeeded and keep up the good work.

April 15 & 16, 2006 - Members participated in the Eric Horgan Clinic at Larkin' Hill.  They spent the first day on flat work - learning basic ground work techniques including warm-up routines, leg yielding movements and learning about pace.  The second day saw them jumping various obstacles - learning gymnastics for their horses and how pace affects the jumping.  They came away with much more knowledge to apply to their everyday riding and are looking forward to more clinics with Mr. Horgan.  (Remember to "raise your bloody hands!")

APRIL 2006 - Let's hear it for the Quiz Kids!  Stephanie R. and Kaley G. competed in a tough and neck and neck Senior D competition.  Great scores were turned in and Stephanie qualified for the National "A" Team!!!  She will be off to Lexington, Va with a very strong regional team.  Claudia R. and Kali L. joined up with two other players from other clubs and swept their  Sr C division by a landslide!  They opted to skip Nationals this year after two successful years, but a regional blue ribbon was very sweet.  So, Old Chatham is carrying on their tradition of being well represented at Nationals.  Let's show our support for Stephanie.
